Those of us with Lake Martin in our blood eagerly await the official opening rite of summer—Memorial Day Weekend. Again this year, we’ve got a special treat for you. The Third Annual RXR Fest will bring numerous musical acts to the Town Green Friday and Saturday evening. The best part is, Friday and Saturday are FREE! From 6:30–10 pm on Sunday, SpringHouse will be hosting a Barbecue Finale with Chef Rob's traditional pork and chicken, while being entertained by live music from Jonathan Bloom. Tickets for the Sunday night event are $55 per person. They include beer and wine, food and some great music, and are available for purchase at SpringHouse. Tickets are limited, so get yours early.
O’Connell wins Alex City Jazz Fest Art Contest
The Alex City Jazz Fest committee recently named the winner of its 2016 commemorative poster and T-shirt art contest. The competition encouraged artists to submit artwork to honor the 26th anniversary of the community event.
The AMP is an open-air site, located on the top of one of the rolling hills, high above the shores of Lake Martin. The many acres of open fields surrounding the amphitheater have a rolling topography, including several small streams, and are bordered by the lake and dense woods. The entire area provides a panoramic view of the Big Kowaliga Basin.
As people sit on blankets or lawn chairs to enjoy events, they look down on a 60'x40' state-of-the-art stage, with a panoramic view of Lake Martin as a backdrop. In addition, we have improved road access and parking areas, which are near and offer easy access, day or night. The parking areas are dirt/gravel and grass. There are two restrooms with handicap access. Security is provided to promote and maintain a wholesome family atmosphere.
